Birthday Festivities: Part 1

I had the most wonderful birthday weekends of all birthday weekends. If you follow my blog, you know that Steve has missed my past four birthdays. That's the army. But boy did he make up for lost ground! We took a short and sweet trip up to Alexandria, VA. Steve's parents came in town and watched Sadie for the two days we were gone.

We stayed at the Westin Hotel which was a beautiful and in a great location near Old Town Alexandria. When we first arrived kicked it off with a walk around Old Town to check out the sites, window shop, and we grabbed a couple of beers at a pub called Murphy's.

Before heading back to the hotel, we decided we needed a snack to hold us over until our 8:45 dinner reservations(Whoa, this was almost our bedtime!), so we stopped in a little Mexican Restaurant and sat the bar with some chips, dips, and beer. That night we went to a restaurant one of the hotel staff members recommended to us called Virtue. The building had a really cool rustic elegant vibe to it and was right off the river. I had some Prosecco while Steve enjoyed a Madris. We had delicious Calamari for an appetizer and both loved our main dishes.

We didn't actually get anything from Bread & Chocolate, as they were closed, but seriously this is my dream restaurant. Two things that I love. Just add wine and I'm set. We did, however, go to this cute place for drinks called PX. It's a speakeasy on a side street. You have to knock on a door with a blue light and wait for someone to let you in. It was a tiny little place, but the drinks were great and the atmosphere was wonderful.

The next day we went in the morning to a Farmers Market right in the middle of Old Town at City Hall. It was great! I wish we had a good one close to where we live. We picked up some local honey and some homemade Salsa to bring back to Steve's parents. Then we hopped in the car and headed off to a few wineries.

Stay tuned for my next post about the cute wineries we visited!
