If you missed the big announcement, then you should start out by reading it first. My husband received orders for South Korea, and Sadie and I are going with him.
We've been doing a lot of research lately to learn more about the culture and where we will be living. I decided to do my Friday Five today on fun "facts" we've learned about Korea.
please note: These "facts" may not actually be proven factual, but they are things I've found on websites and blogs from other people living the in the country. I can't wait to be there and experience it myself.
[one] Korean's believe your blood type determines your personality.
Steve, Sadie, and I all are O negative, so according to www.Korea4expats.com :
Best Traits: Ambitious, athletic, robust and self-confident.
Worst Traits: Arrogant, insensitive, ruthless and vain.
Referred to as ‘warriors’, Type O’s are viewed as natural leaders and are often, also, natural athletes. They tend to be outgoing, expressive and passionate, but can also bore others to death with their obsessive drive for success coupled with their absolute convictions that they are winners. This certainty that they will always win explains why they aren’t afraid to take risks or gamble. They have a strong physical presence and are unlikely to ever be overlooked.
[two] Korean's start counting age at conception, so at your birthday you are one year old. If we put Sadie in a Korean day care, we will have to consider her 3 instead of 2! The years are already going fast enough!
[three] Sweet Potato is a popular taste. By this I mean they not only eat sweet potato, but sweet potato flavored foods such as cake, salad, pizza, you get the point. I am actually really excited about this, because being the picky eater that I am, I really like sweet potato, so I'm sure I can find something I like!
[four] Tipping is not required and not expected. I am 100% excited about this part. Why can't America be like this?!
[five] Koreans love children, especially blonde hair, blue eyed ones. If that's true, we've got a gold mind traveling with us!
A few other fun facts I just couldn't omit from this list:
- The number "4" is extremely unlucky. I guess I need a new favorite number.
- Never write someone's name in red ink. They may die. I think I'll leave all my red ink pens in the states.
- Drinking in public is 100% legal. Thank you! Just like being back in good ole' Savannah.
I am sure there are a million other fun facts, and I will find out even more when we get over there, so we may have to revisit this list sometime in the future! Make sure you're following so you can get all the ins and outs! Until then...
