Pinterest Inspiration

As our move gets closer and closer, I am getting SOO excited about decorating our new house.

The past 4 years we have been moving every 6 months - 1 year. So I haven't really done a lot of decorating. We just made due with what we had and what we could find for cheap.

This time, I plan on doing it right. Planning out each room and really considering what I want the room to look like, feel like, and portray for our family. I don't want to buy anything just because it's on sale.

So of course I've been glued to Pinterest looking at ideas.

Here is a few photos I've found to inspire the look around our new home.

I absolutely love these barstools. Our kitchen is not white, but we have plans on the horizon to paint the cabinets while pretty soon.

I love this living room. The neutrals with a pop of color is what I love. The window treatments are particularly my favorite.

I think I could feel right at home in this romantic and cozy master bedroom.

We actually have an outdoor fireplace in our new house. I can't wait to decorate the area and add some big comfortable furniture. I think I might just live out there.

More inspiration coming... in the meantime, feel free to follow me on Pinterest

Small Changes

We live in a rental on post. We'll only be living here  for approximately six months. Two and a half of those months are already over. Therefore, we haven't done much around here besides set up our furniture and hang a few pictures. In fact, we have a storage closet outback stacked floor to ceiling of things we didn't even unpack.

So in order for this place to feel like home, I have to make small and inexpensive changes.

One of the things that bothered me the most was the spices. We have no good cabinet space for them and after a few weeks, I kind of liked having the ones we used on the counter. We cook a lot and I definitely use spices more when they are within my view. Therefore, we've had them sitting on this turn table for a couple months now. Talk about an eye-sore.

I didn't want to buy anything new for the time being and the turn table worked pretty well, it just wasn't pretty. So what did I do? I made it pretty!

I took the pieces a part. Out in the garage in went and my husband used gold spray paint to cover it.

I just love how it turned out. It's a small change, but the turn table looks so much better with a fresh coat of gold spray. What do you think?

I plan on moving all our spices into matching containers at some point, but I'm waiting until we sit still in our house for a while. Too bad I didn't save all those baby food jars!

Spring Time Entry

I am so ready for Spring around here. By calendar definition, it is officially here. However, Virginia didn't get he memo and we have a few more cold days. But come this weekend, I'm hoping and wishing we are moving to spring and never looking back!

To get in the warm spirit, I decided to do a little decorating. We don't have a mantel in this house and I don't like buying much for here since we are renting and will only be here for a total of 6 months(2 down! 4 to go!). So instead, I decorated our cute little entry way table. I love how it turned out and it brightens my day when I walk into this room. I also spruced up my burlap wreath that I change up every season. I added fresh flowers around the house, but was not able with the flowers available so far! I can't wait until I can get my hands on some more Gerber Daises, Tulips, and Hydrangea!

Cross: Our Marriage Cross from our Wedding
Vase with Pink and Blue Eggs: Eggs from The Dollar Store
Bunny Picture: Found on Pinterest by the PaperCharm
Spring Sign: Found at Thrift store, cute isn't it? Sadie picked it out:-)
Pottery Barn inspired jar with yellow filler from The Dollar Store

Yellow bowl found on clearance at Target. We use this to drop our keys.

What have you done to start decorating for Spring?

Our House 2010

My husband and I closed on our house one week before we got married. Then a week after the wedding, my husband was deployed. That's a lot in just a couple weeks! Not to mention I was left to make this house our first home all by myself. Almost a year later, and my husband is back and our house has improved greatly; however, I'm saving that updated post for the one year mark. So here it is, our house when we first moved in as newlyweds...

Yupp, that's our little house, with an empty lot next to it. And those people in the picture would be my parents helping us with the big move.
This is our back yard, pre-fence and and pre-patio furniture.
The little pond in our back yard... and see that huge bush in the way.. I know what you're thinking... that's gotta go!

One year later and the house has come a long way, and I can't wait to show it to you!

until next time,

Kacie
