An Empty Mantel

First, let me say this is the first time I've had a mantle to decorate in our house.

When we moved into our new house, it was the first week of November. Once the boxes were unpacked and I actually began to decorate, I decided it was easiest to go straight into Christmas mode.

So up went the Christmas decorations on our new mantle. Here's a look.

-->I didn't get any good photos, but you get the picture :-)

We did end up buying the clock at Kirkland's and I still love it. Not only is it a great decoration, but it's practical and Sadie is learning to tell time from it.

But then January came and all of the Christmas decorations were packed away.

And now I'm left with this. (Excuse the toys... I'm a mom.)

So I'm starting from scratch! I've been pinning like crazy and here is some inspiration I've found.

So far, I've purchased three things for the mantle. The small gold circle thing is from Home Goods.

I already had the two candle sticks, but I'm not sure I want to use those there.

And the two small topiaries are from Amazon.

I am on the search for the remaining items to hopefully have it finished next week.

More to come...

Share your ideas with me! I'd love to hear them!

Until then... we are happily celebrating the holidays. Our elves are back in town, the tree is up, and the countdown as begun!

Stay tuned for our living room reveal!

Here is what the living room looked like on our final walk through.

Furniture Shopping

We are FIVE days away from closing on our house!!

I am SO ready.

This weekend we went out furniture shopping with GREAT success. We ended up finding a beautiful grey headboard and a wicker patio set at a Consignment shop. I am SO excited about these pieces!

Can you see it back there? The color really is a beautiful dark grey.

We bought the love seat and chair, but not the table(it was from a different set). I also didn't get the pillows so that I can style it myself.

We also were able to buy our couch and bed. We kept with the grey theme we were eyeing with IKEA, but ended up buying an Ashley Furniture Sectional. We also bought the ottoman in the picture. I love the yellow pillows that come with the couch, but not the patterned ones. Thankfully, they are zippered pillow covers so I can easily change them! I can just imagine the four of us all curled up on this couch watching a movie.

Finally, we made the plunge and FINALLY got a king bed! We've had a Queen Tempurpedic that Steve had since before we were married. I am SO excited to move up to a King AND pillow top.

We got just this mattress, and a regular bed frame. We will attach our own headboard above. I'm thinking a big, white and fluffy comforter with pattern sheets.

What do you think??

I can't wait to show you photos of these pieces in our new place as we make this house our home.

Happy Friday!

It's Friday!!

Which mean's the hubby is FINALLY home... sleeping in bed of course. While the kids are up early.

If you follow my on Instagram or Facebook... you know that my sweet Sadie is sick with Strep Throat. Having a sick child sucks. Having a sick child while your husband is out of town sucks even more. Having a sick child while your husband is out of town in a new city where you know NO ONE sucks the worst. But we are on the brighter side now that she has antibiotics in her system.

On more exciting news... we have our  final walkthrough of our house today! I can't wait to see it again and to show it to the kids. I'm pretty excited about taking a measuring tape with us this time, so that we can get measurements for the furniture that we want to order.

What's up first? We've decided on a couch, mattress, and king headboard frame.

The couch is from IKEA. After having dark brown couches for years... I knew I wanted a lighter color couch. I fell in love with this light grey one from IKEA and have pretty much compared every other couch to it... so we just decided it's our couch!

I also knew I wanted a fabric, tufted headboard. When I saw this one on Wayfair.com... I pretty much kept clicking on the same one. It might just be destiny?

Finally, we have pretty much decided on a Leesa Mattress. We are used to a Tempurpedic but it's an old one and retains too much heat. This one is similar and we like that we can try it for 100 nights and return it if we don't like it. Does anyone else have one of these?! What do you think??

Now to head off to shop for a washer and dryer this weekend!

Happy Weekend!

Less than two weeks until closing!

Life in settling in for us here in San Antonio. We actually  got to take the kids to the Zoo this weekend which was a lot of fun.

We are less than two weeks away from closing on our house! I can't wait to start decorating! It's been SO long since I've seen our stuff, especially the things that have been in storage for 2+ years, that I'm scared to actually start buying anything until I see what I have exactly.

But I have been using an amazing tool, called Olioboard to help me with my vision. So far I've started with the living room and master bedroom and I love the way they are turning out.

My plan is to not actually buy anything until I have my vision board with me so that I KNOW it fits with what I am looking for. I'm horrible about buying pillows, taking them home and only liking them for a week.

I might not buy the exact objects on this board, but it will at least give me a feel for what I am looking for.

The media stand for the TV above is the one we already have. If it doesn't end up going with the theme of the living room, it will get moved to our loft room eventually.

We are putting our Queen Bedroom Suite in the guest room and starting over with a King bed in the master. My parents gave me a dresser/mirror combo that is a beautiful wood passed down from my great grandmother. We will be refinishing it and I love the finish on the dresser above.

I still have a lot of vision to create and even more to actually accomplish, but I know our house will be a home that we love eventually.
